ISKANDAR PUTERI, March 4 (Bernama) — Johor is targeting for 66 gold medals at the 2020 Malaysia Games (Sukma) scheduled to be held in the state from July 11 to 19.
Johor Sukma chef-de-mission Datuk Amran A. Rahman said he was confident the target would be achieved with the hard work shown by all the state’s athletes and officials.
“The events that we expect to be major contributors to our medal tally are canoe, swimming, gymnastics and athletics,” he told reporters during a ceremony with team managers here today.
Also present were Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Noorazam Osman, who is also deputy chef-de-mission 1; Johor State Deputy Secretary On Jaabar@Jaafar, who is also the 20th Sukma Secretariat chief executive officer; and Johor Sports Council (MSNJ) director Gadaffie Abd Aziz.
Meanwhile, Amran said preparations for Sukma 2020 were still on track despite concerns over the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country.

“So far, we have continued our preparations, no matter what, we will wait for the federal and state governments (on whether) to postpone (the Games) or otherwise…but the preparations of our athletes as well as infrastructure development are going on as usual, and nothing has been disrupted,” he said.
The Johor contingent comprises 766 athletes and officials, while this is the second time Sukma is being held in the state.
