AirAsia ‘Hibernating’ Most Of Its Planes, Top Management Volunteered Pay Cut

KUALA LUMPUR: Following a COVID-19 outbreak pandemic that has led to travel restrictions by several countries, AirAsia Group will implement a temporary ground most of its fleet and suspend flights from March 28 except a small number mostly within Indonesia and Thailand.

This announcement is made for and on behalf of, and as agreed with, the operating airlines under the AirAsia Group and the AirAsia X Group as follows:

AirAsia (Long-haul flights)

AirAsia Malaysia (AK): Temporary suspension of all international and domestic flights from March 28 to April 21, 2020;

AirAsia Philippines: Temporary suspension of all flights from March 20 to April 14, 2020, following the quarantined community in Luzon and still operating in other parts of the country;

AirAsia Thailand (FD): Temporary suspension of all international flights from March 22, 2020, to April 25, 2020, domestic flights still operate at a lower frequency;

AirAsia Indonesia (QZ): Reducing international flights, domestic flights still operate at lower frequencies;

AirAsia India (I5): Suspension of all flights from March 25 for 21 days following the announcement by the Indian government to temporarily suspend domestic flights in India.

AirAsia X (Medium and long-distance flights)

AirAsia X Malaysia (D7): Temporary suspension of nearly all flights from March 28, 2020, to May 31, 2020. (D7 flight code only flies to international routes);

AirAsia X Thailand (XJ): Temporary suspension of all flights from March 16, 2020, for three months; DMK-ICN flights are suspended until April 19, 2020, (Flight code XJ only flies to international routes).

Besides that, Air Asia also announced the management and senior employees of AirAsia Group have volunteered a salary sacrifice.
In our effort to further manage and contain costs, both the management and senior employees of AirAsia Group have volunteered a salary sacrifice, ranging from 100% at the very top to 15%. This will help ensure that we can ride out this prolonged period of extremely low travel demand and at the same time minimise the impact on our employees, especially those in junior positions.
