Covid-19 Hits Thailand, Hungry Monkeys Fighting In The Street Over Food

Many hungry monkeys were seen battling about a single banana in Thailand after coronavirus caused a huge drop in the quantities of tourists who feed them.

The primates are usually very much taken care of by tourists in Lopburi, central Thailand. However, the number of visitors was decreasing due to COVID-19 infection.

It is believed that these animals are part of two ‘rival packs’ comprised of the monkeys who stay in the city and those from the temple areas.

The monkeys are seen jumping on each other just to get the banana. Locals even shocked by these animal attitudes.

“They looked more like wild dogs than monkeys. They went crazy for a single piece of food. I’ve never seen them this aggressive,” said Sasaluk Rattanachai, a locals resident.

“I think the monkeys were very, very hungry. There’s normally a lot of tourists here to feed the monkeys but now there are not as many, because of the coronavirus,” she added.

Lopburi was famous as a home to thousands of monkeys that can roam freely around the city. It is said that the monkeys divided into two groups. One which lives in the temple and those living in the city.
