23-Year-Old Woman Youngest COVID-19 Fatality In Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, April 9 — A 23-year-old Malaysian woman who died today was the youngest fatality of COVID-19 in the country, according to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the woman, who was the 67th person to succumb to the coronavirus in the country, had also suffered from thyroid disease.

“The patient had thyroid disease and she came in late for treatment (of COVID-19). Most cases, 88 per cent cent, come in when in Category One and Two (of the disease) but this patient came in when she was already in Category Four,” he told the daily press conference on COVID-19 update, here.

Dr Noor Hisham said the woman, who was Case No. 2864), had a history of close contact with two other COVID-19 cases, 2469 and 2470) and was a fifth-generation case of the church conference cluster in Kuching, Sarawak, even though she had not attended that meeting.

The woman was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital on March 30 and died at 9.42 am today, he said.

Dr Noor Hisham had said yesterday that almost 60 per cent of the COVID-19 fatalities in the country comprised those aged 60 and above and who also had other health problems.
