Elderly Woman Killed After House Colapses

KUCHING, April 21 — A septuagenarian was crushed to death after the kitchen area of her house in Kampung Semariang Batu here collapsed this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said Hajijah Mahtar, 72, died due to severe head injuries.

Seven personnel from the Petra Jaya fire and rescue station, led by Senior Fire officer II Awang Affendi Awang Daud rushed to the scene after being alerted about the 7.25 am incident.

The victim was pulled out by rescuers after being trapped under the rubble.

Initial investigations found that the 30ft x 15ft (9m x 4.6m) house had non-permanent structure  and collapsed due to dilapidation, said the operations centre.
