A six-week-old baby in the United States has died from complications related to coronavirus infection.
The death of the baby was conveyed by the Governor of Connecticut, Ned Lamont on Wednesday (1/4) local time.
In a Twitter post, Lamont said that the newborn was taken unconscious to the hospital last week and could not be saved.
“The test results last night have confirmed that the newborn was positive for COVID-19,” Lamont said as quoted by the AFP news agency on Thursday (2/4/2020).
“This is truly heartbreaking. We believe this is one of the youngest souls anywhere to die from complications related to COVID-19,” added the governor of the state of Connecticut.
Last week, Illinois authorities said they were investigating the death of a child less than a year old who was positive for coronavirus. According to local media, the baby is 9 months old.
Spreading of coronavirus has killed at least 4,476 people in the US. During this time it is believed that this virus is more dangerous for adults, but lately, more and more young patients are hospitalized because of this virus.
