‘Utama Cluster’ Biggest Contributor To New Cases In Selangor – MOH

Recently, it was announced that there was a new cluster named The Utama Cluster. This particular cluster has, unfortunately, become one of the largest-contributing clusters to Covid-19 cases especially the one recorded in Selangor. This statement has been proven by the statistics that have been reported by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Health Director that is General Dr. Noor Hisham said that out of the 150 new reported cases from Selangor, 105 cases were identified from this Cluster Utama during MOH’s daily press conference on the 15th of October 2020. This brings all the total cases to 132 specifically from the Utama Cluster only.

The particular cluster has been identified to involve all the Gombak, Petaling, and also Hulu Langat districts in Selangor. Other than that, this Utama Cluster also has included patients from Alor Gajah in Melaka. The total number of 131 cases from the Utama Cluster is originally from Selangor whereas one case was reported from Melaka. 107 of this total are non-citizens while the remaining 25 patients are Malaysian.

Utama Cluster has started on the 10th of October 2020 from the index case no.15023 which a Nepalese security guard who worked in the mall has been tested positive with COVID-19 on the 8th of October after he started experiencing most of the symptoms of the virus.

Until now, all the 132 cases can be broken down into the following categories:

  • 87 security guards
  • 18 cleaners
  • 16 employees in multiple premises at the shopping mall
  • 6 shoppers
  • 5 family members of the index case
