Looking at it, most countries around the world are still working hard to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. According to Transfusion News, with no vaccine or medication approved for treatment, medical researchers are considering using plasma recovery to treat sick patients.
Convalescent Plasma donation was a donation collected from individuals recovered from COVID-19 and may contain high antibody titers to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus causing COVID-19).
Recently, a post has gone viral on Facebook by Reza Huzairi Zayn. The post was about his experience undergoing Convalescent Plasma donation.
Not only that, as a former COVID-19 patient, he also shared a little experience during hospitalization.
“To your knowledge, I am a former patient of COVID-19 case 46. Colleagues and I have been infected with this COVID-19 virus in the second wave and we have been Working From Hospital / Home since then. Rest assured I am completely free of COVID-19. Alhamdulillah.”
“The experience in the isolation ward will be my lifelong memory. I never imagined I’d be in that situation. When locked in 24 hours for 11 days in a room, the depressed is not a joke. In my mindset, I also think about my wife and children at home. Also to all my staff. Worried if the virus I had would infect them anyway. I only rely on Allah Almighty during that time.”
“I always thought good to Allah and sure of what this was, there must be wisdom. For 11 days, I continued my regular office work even in the ward. I don’t want to worry about that depressed feeling. I’m just focused on strengthening myself and fighting to recover. Only occasionally, the body feels tired. Maybe the antibody is working. If that happens, I need to rest. Alhamdulillah, my health was good and didn’t have any bad symptoms.”
“After 11 days warded at Hospital Sungai Buloh (HSB), I’ve been discharged on 14th March 2020 since my test result shows -ve twice. Thank God,” said Reza.
“After two weeks of discharge and follow up checkup at HSB, on the 31st March, Dr. from HSB called me and informed that I had been chosen as Convalescent Plasma donor. The donated plasma will be tested and if successful, it will be used as a serum for the treatment of COVID-19.”
“According to Dr., I am the 1st Malaysian to donate my blood plasma for this research. Feeling proud and grateful, God replaces my sadness in 2020 with a sense of relief and pride in the opportunity to help COVID-19 patients with this blood plasma donation. If this success, the plasma or serum will be used to the selected COVID-19 patient to help them for faster recovery. But the amount extracted from me at one time only enough for a few patients. It is a bit sad, but In Sha Allah in two weeks, I will donate again. And more ex-COVID-19 patients will be called soon to help.”
“Why have I been selected? According to Dr., my antibody works great in fighting the COVID-19 virus. Also, I do not have any chronic disease and do not take any medication for the long term. Ideal for the 1st donor. So guys, stay healthy. It is really important to take care of our health, not only for us but also for the good of others around us. Anyway, I hope your prayers are a success and we can help more COVID-19 patients who are still in the hospital, especially those in critical condition. Last but not least, I pray that everyone I know here and there will always be protected from this outbreak. Hopefully, this outbreak will go away soon too. In sha Allah,” he added.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and gratitude to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), especially to the doctors, nurses and all the health workers involved in the HSB throughout my treatment of me and the other patients there. Also my thanks to the doctors and nurses at the National Blood Center for their kind service throughout the plasma donation process. They have all done their best to treat COVID-19 patients and to prevent the outbreak. Most of all, millions of thanks to my entire family and co-workers who have been praying for my healing. Only Allah Almighty can repay their services,” said Reza.
Reza also reminds everyone to please stay at home and practice social distancing he knows that it will work.
