Op Benteng: 442 Foreigners Detained

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — A total of 442 individuals of various nationalities have been detained during the integrated operation, codenamed Op Benteng, since it was launched until yesterday.

The National Task Force (NTF) in a statement today said the success was the results of various enforcement efforts implemented through the ongoing operation including tight border control as well as monitoring of hotspots and illegal migrant rat routes.

“These are part of the government’s efforts to combat cross-border crimes and to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“The public has been urged to contact  the NTF operation centre hotline (011-6251 1223) should they have any information regarding cross-border criminal activities,” the statement said.

Op Benteng which involves the Malaysian Armed Forces, the police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Malaysian Border Security Agency was activated on May 12 to tighten national borders from illegal immigrants.
