5 Unusual Phobias, Real Fears You Never Knew Existed

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder defined by a persistent and excessive fear of an object or situation. If you have one, you’ll do almost anything to avoid what you’re afraid of.

Someone with a phobia understands that their fear is not logical. Still, if they try to squelch it, it only makes them more anxious.

There are different types of specific phobias, based on the object or situation feared, including:

1. Catoptrophobia

This phobia is a fear of the mirror or reflection of one’s own face in the mirror. This might be due to a tragedy that has happened to someone involving a mirror. They might imagine ghosts standing behind when they look in the mirror.

2. Triskaidekaphobia

Triskaidekaphobia is a persistent and irrational fear of the number 13. The number 13 is always associated with negative and evil entities. They tend to think very negatively about these numbers.

3. Nomophobia

Nomophobia will cause individuals to feel frustrated when their phone is not charged, has no balance, or is misplaced.

4. Anemophobia

There is a phobia of water, sea or river, for fear of drowning. But never heard of fear of the wind. Anemophobia also explains the situation where a person is afraid of the wind. They should not be near open windows. Equipment such as hand dryers is also definitely scary to this group.

5. Optophobia

Optophobia explains the situation in which a person feels afraid to open their eyes. It may sound strange but it is real.
