KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) – Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has been found guilty of seven charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), money laundering and abuse of power involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
High Court Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali made the decision after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the case against all charges against Najib, 67.
“Therefore, I found the accused guilty and convicted the accused of all seven charges,” the judge said.
On the charge of abuse of power, the judge said Najib’s defense team had failed to highlight the balance of probabilities to raise reasonable doubts in the prosecution’s case.
Najib as the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Malaysia is alleged to have used his position to commit corruption involving RM42 million through his involvement or participation in the decision to provide government guarantees for loans applied from KWAP by SRC amounting to RM4 billion.
He was charged with committing the offense at the Prime Minister’s Office, Precinct 1, Putrajaya, Federal Territory of Putrajaya between August 17, 2011 and Feb 8, 2012. Najib was the sixth prime minister from 2009 to 2018.
Mohd Nazlan then read out the verdict on the charge of criminal breach of trust (CBT).
