Noah Lyles Thought He Had Smashed Usain Bolt’s World Record But Gets Disqualified

Noah Lyles, a U.S. runner was briefly thought to have beaten Usain bolt’s record in the 200-meter-race. It turns out he started from the wrong spot.

Running alone on a track in Florida against competitors on Europe as part of the Inspiration Game. He finished the run in just 18.90 seconds, which he thought has broken the record Jamaican runner Usain bolt set at 19.19 seconds in 2009.

The organizers immediately discovered that Lyles had started from the wrong lane and only run for 185 meters. That is nearly short of the total distance of the race.

Lyles tweeted his disappointment for the race and blamed the organizers for having him in the wrong lane.

In the end, French runner Christophe Lemaitre won the race by finishing it in 19.80 seconds on a track in Zurich, Switzerland.
