TAIPEI, July 24 — The suspension of all outbound and inbound tours imposed on Taiwanese travel agencies will be extended until the end of August, as the COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of abating.

The ban, which began on March 19, was originally scheduled to last until the end of July, reported Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) quoted the Tourism Bureau on Friday.

Although Taiwan reached 101 days with no new local cases of COVID-19, and despite a handful of new imported cases over the past weeks, the number of confirmed cases worldwide has passed 15 million, with over 610,000 deaths, according to figures published on the World Health Organisation (WHO) website.

In accordance with the Central Epidemic Command Centre’s (CECC) disease prevention measures, the bureau said it decided to further extend the ban until Aug 31.

Currently, Taiwan bans the entry of foreign nationals with few exceptions, and all overseas arrivals including Taiwanese nationals are subject to a period of 14-days in quarantine upon entry.
