Chelsea has lost for the first time since the English Premier League (EPL) has returned to action in June. It was West Ham that scores the win with a 3-2 victory against The Blues.
Although Chelsea has beaten Manchester City to crown Liverpool as champions and also beaten Leicester to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, Lampard admits that the defeat indicates how far the team must progress.
“It’s a sign of where we are – we have a lot of hard work to do to get to where we want to be,” said Frank Lampard.
“The reason the rest of us are chasing Liverpool and Man City is because of the consistency they have developed so that is what we have to work towards. It’s obviously frustrating but if we are in that position it’s how you bounce back and move forward,” he added.
With the defeat, Chelsea has missed the chance of claiming third place from Leicester City who also lose to Everton earlier.
The match that happens at the London Stadium saw West Ham were denied the first goal after VAR ruled Michail Antonio was offside while Tomas Soucek scored the goal.
Chelsea then gets the first goal after Willian scores in a penalty 5 minutes before half-time after Issa Diop tripped Christian Pulisic.
But luckily Soucek scores a goal for West Ham minutes later. On the second-half, Antonio then scores another goal for West Ham, putting the team in front.
Willian gets his second goal with a fantastic free kick in the 70th minute to get a draw for Chelsea. Before the match ended, Yarmolenko score another goal for West Ham, thus making the team gets the three points.
The win against Chelsea was the first win for West Ham since the reopening league.
