“You Shouldn’t Use A Metal Spoon in Honey,” Honey Myth or Fact, What Do You Know?

Honey has been used as a folk remedy throughout history and has a variety of health benefits and medical uses. It’s even used in some hospitals as a treatment for wounds.

We always listen and follow along with parenting tips. Supposedly, if you want to drink honey, you must use a wooden spoon or plastic spoon.

However, how far the real theory going according to Fatimah Salim, said no worries to used a metal spoon just to drink honey.

My answer: There is no problem with using a spoon of iron to extract honey. It may be that the statement does not encourage the use of iron spoons due to the nature of honey.

Honey is acidic due to its organic acid content. The pH scale of honey is usually between 3.4 – 6.1. Because acidic substances can corrode metals (such as this iron spoon) it is feared that metal components can be mixed in honey.

Like the concept of cooking utensils with acidic ingredients too. Not all honey has the same level of acidity.

The effect of this reaction only occurs if it is left to soak in the honey for a long time.
