It is understood that he only used shovels and pickaxes to dig a 10-foot-deep tunnel at a nearby farm leading to the bottom of the prison wall.

The land is said to have been dumped near an unused garage, which is close to the excavation site.

The woman had managed to dig about three tons of soil by the time she was apprehended and detained, three weeks later since she first started her operation.

During the day, the woman never left her house because she did not want people around to know that outsiders were living in their area.

When the Ukrainian TV station TSN showed her picture to a nearby dealer, they could not give any answer because they never knew her or came across her.

“This mother prepared thoroughly. ‘Perhaps she is a miner’s daughter,” said resident, Serhey Pilnyansky.

“It is very difficult to dig as deep as three meters. He also does not use modern digging tools or the like,” she added.

There is no further information on the identity of her son who is from Mykolaiv. While police were conducting a search in the mother’s rented house, they found several tools for digging.
