Christchurch Terrorist Don’t Deserve To Be Called By Name – Prime Minister of NZ

On 15 March 2019, a massive shooting event occurred in New Zealand. It has grabbed the world’s attention after the incident had killed 51 people in two mosques in Christchurch. The people were shooted while they were having Friday prayer.

The terrorist, Brenton Tarrant was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In 1961, the death penalty was abolished from the New Zealand jurisprudence. New Zealand has been ranked 2nd peaceful country in the world by the Global Peace Index, which is proved that there is no terrorist attack had happened in the country, until March 2019.

The inhuman shooting had caused the death of 51 people including a 3-year-old child and injured dozens more. After four days of the court hearing, the killer will face a life sentence in solitary confinement.

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand stated that this court hearing should be the last time they would hear or say the name of the terrorist. His life deserves complete silence, she added.

The prime minister doesn’t want the terrorist to get publicity and fame. Brenton Tarrant had become the headlines for many weeks after the attack. Thus, Ardern will put a stop to call the terrorist by name as his actions were inhuman.

This is a method used in denying those who did cruel actions so that the person is not being taken as a hero for certain followers. This is to avoid a psychiatric problem called Breivik syndrome, in which the name comes from a Norwegian terrorist who shot over 70 people in 2011. His actions had inspired other terrorists to do just like what he did.

The terrorist will spend in solitary confinement. Isolation can prevent he does not spread terrorism to other prisoners. This punishment also allows the authorities to monitor him closely.
