Face Mask Ceiling Price Will Be Lowered – Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6  — The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will lower the ceiling price of face mask to below RM1.20, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision was made after getting feedback and discussions with various parties.

“The ministry is taking measures…  in fact it  has already been announced that the ceiling price for 3-ply face mask will be reduced from RM1.50 to RM1.20 per unit.

“But now given the general feedback, we are going to further reduce the price to lower than RM1.20,” he said in reply to a supplementary question by Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) during the Ministerial Question Time (MQT) session here.

Khoo wanted to know the measures taken by the ministry to ensure that the price of face mask was lowered.

On July 23, Nanta announced that the ceiling price for face masks would be reduced to RM1.20 from RM1.50 per unit beginning Aug 15 while the wholesale price for the product would also be reduced from the current RM1.45 per unit to RM1.15 from the same date.
