Fatal Heat Wave in Japan Lead to 148 Death in a Month

Heatstroke is a condition where your body overheating. It happened when your body temperature increases rapidly and unable to cool it down.

Heatstroke can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs. In the worst cases, this can lead to death.

Reportedly, the 148 death toll has hit Japan due to heatstroke. The intense heat waves have proven fatal when Japan approaches midsummer since the start of August 2020.

They are struggling with the heat as the temperature reached up to 36°C and 37°C as the summer heat peaks in Japan.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported another 17 new cases between August 13 until August 20. The death toll from heatstroke totals up to 148 this month.

The temperature has been rising from Friday morning due to a high-pressure system covering a wide area from Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan through the northeast, said the Meteorological Agency.

Most of the victims were aged 70 or older. The scorching summer heat has been very hard for the elders as extreme heat has continued in eastern and western Japan for about two weeks.

Japan authorities have been warning the people against possible heatstroke. According to NHK, most of the cases happened because the victims were not using air conditioners. It is advisable for people to drink water frequently to minimize the risk.
