Indian Man Received His Wallet That Was Stolen 14 Years Ago

India, a man received such a piece of unexpected information from the Government Railway Police (GRP) about his stolen wallet that they had recovered. To make it more interesting,  the victim has reported his wallet missing about 14 years ago.

Hermant Padalkar, now 42, lost his wallet in 2006, containing Rs 900 (RM50), including a Rs 500 (RM28) note, on a CMST-Panvel train. Last April, he received a call from the Government Railway Police saying that his wallet had been found.

According to Padalkar, “When I realized that my wallet had been stolen, I got down and filed a complaint with the Vashi GRP,”.

He used to follow up with the investigation but then gave up after a few months. “I followed this issue aggressively, but after a few months, I forgot about it. In April, when I got a call from the Vash GRP, I was really surprised,” he said.

Because of the lockdown, he couldn’t visit the GRP until las week. By the time he reached the office, an on-duty officer told him that the GRP had recovered the wallet but couldn’t give him back the Rs 500 note as it was no longer legal tender.

It said that Padalkar is not the only person to face this problem. The GRP said it has written to the Reserve Bank of India but is yet to receive a reply from them.

The official added that the GRP had recovered more than a dozen Rs 500 notes from thieves recently.

Another Vashi GRP officer stated, “We are trying our best to change these notes, but are yet to receive a reply from the authorities,”.
