On July 25, a few days before Aidiladha was celebrated, many people concern if they could not return to the village to celebrate. Recently, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has identified two more new COVID-19 clusters, yesterday.
According to a post on Facebook by MOH, the two clusters identified are the Kurau Cluster and the Meranti Cluster. Below are the full explanation regarding the clusters:
TWO (2) NEW CLUSTERS REPORTED TODAY (Sunday)
MOH would like to inform that there are two (2) new clusters that have been identified today, namely:
1. Kurau Cluster: Two (2) positive cases have been detected in this cluster. The first case of this cluster (i.e. the 9050th case) is a positive COVID-19 case which was reported on 7 August 2020.
The second case of this cluster (i.e. the 9082th case) is the brother-in-law of the 9050th case, where he was detected results of active case detection activities (Active Case Detection) and close contact screening.
Following that, he and his family in Penang were also screened. On 9 August 2020, he was detected positive for COVID-19 while, his family members who have been screened so far [i.e. five (5) people] were detected negative.
So far a total of 115 individual contact contacts have been filtered. Of these: • 106 negatives; and • Nine (9) are still waiting for the results. Active case tracking and close contact screening is still ongoing.
2. Meranti Cluster: This cluster was first detected when the 9083 case, i.e. a health worker was positively tested for COVID-19 on August 8, 2020.
He had contact with the 8968 case, namely the COVID-19 case which was detected as a result of pre-surgical screening (this case has reported on 31 July 2020).
Upon investigation, 8968 cases were found to have a history of seeking treatment at health facilities where 9083 cases were on duty. Close contact screening and active case detection activities (Active Case Detection) are underway where so far 15 individuals have been screened.
The cause of this cluster infection is still under investigation.
LATEST STATUS OF PUI SIVAGANGGA CLUSTER
As of 9 August 2020 at 12 noon, a total of 4,636 people have been screened in this cluster and out of this total, 45 were positively detected COVID-19.
The breakdown of screening by state concerned is as follows: 1. Kedah (4,078 filtered):• 31 cases detected positive for COVID-19; • 4,020 negative individuals; and • 27 individuals are still awaiting results. 2. Perlis (390 filtered): • 11 cases detected positive for COVID-19; and • 379 individuals are still awaiting results. 3. Penang (168 filtered): • Three (3) cases detected positive COVID-19; • 85 negative individuals; and • 80 individuals are still waiting for the results.
Close contact screening and active case detection activities (Active Case Detection) are still ongoing. Preventive measures such as disinfection and decontamination processes are also carried out in areas that have been identified as closely related to this cluster.
