New Species Of Flies Discovered, Named Based On Marvel Superhero Characters

Scientists from research institutes in Australia give a scientific name for a new type of insect. Interestingly, the name they adopted was from the name of the Marvel superheroes.

There are five insects selected to receive the names of favorite superheroes as reported by BBC. Among these are Thor flies, which in scientific terms are called Daptolestes bronteflavus. The Latin translation means Blond Thunder.

A group of scientists in Australia has given superhero character names to several newly discovered species of insects and plants.

According to the BBC, Australia’s science agency Csiro has discovered 164 new species of plants and insects including flies, and gave him some names of superhero characters and villains from Marvel movies.

These latest discoveries not only look ‘strong’ in their name but also some species have been found to be able to treat Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy. In fact, only a quarter of the insects found in Australia have just been studied, meaning many more new discoveries will be explored in the future.

Here are some of the names given to the newly discovered fly species:

1.Thor fly (Daptosletes Bronteflavus)

2.Loki fly (Daptosletes Illusiolautus)

3. Black Widow flies (Daptosletes Femnategus)

4. Deadpool fly (Humorlethalis Sergius)

5. Stan Lee fly (Daptolestes Leei)
