Bad News For Air Traveling, Study Shows How Coronavirus Spread On Planes

We are hoping that the pandemic is going slower now. Many countries started to lift strict rules over the residents as cases are decreasing in their countries. However, there are some other countries that are still on strict safety measures to curb the spread of the disease.

As some countries have lifted the lockdown from their countries, many people are eager to go out of their houses and go traveling. Unfortunately, there is bad news for travelers who are keen to travel on flights.

A study shows that social distancing that is implemented in most aircraft currently may be ineffective at limiting the spread of the virus. The study was published by the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The study has analyzed a single 10-hour flight from March.

Most aircraft currently are keeping middle seats empty as part of the social distancing practices. However, researchers found that this practice seems to be inefficient to prevent super-spreading events, even in spacious sitting arrangements in business class.

Researchers analyzed a flight from London to Hanoi on 2 March, where 16 passengers out of 217 passengers were diagnosed with COVID-19 after boarding the flight. The source of the outbreak was a woman who was sitting in business class, which means that the virus can still be transmitted throughout the plane.

It is a wakeup call for the aircraft companies to tighten screening and prevention measures before the passengers can board the flight. The study recommended that wearing the face mask should be made mandatory on the plane to minimize the risk of spreading the virus.
