Can Lavender Help You Sleep? What The Research Says

Lavandula angustifolia, is often referred to as lavender, are being used over centuries in traditional medicine and cosmetics, there is no high-quality clinical evidence that lavender has any effects on diseases or improves health.

This purple plant has a recorded history of its use since 2,500 years ago. It is believed to originate from parts of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and India. In most of these methods, its use is in the form of lavender essential oil of high concentration and not synthetic odors.

Helps in getting quality sleep

Sleep disturbances have the potential to interfere with the quality and productivity of your work. Studies in ICU patients have found that the use of lavender essential oil can help them to sleep better.

A few drops of this lavender essential oil will be placed on your pillow before bed, and it may help your sleep.

Reduces redness or itching on the skin

The use of essential oils, in general, is found to help the health of the skin, and this includes lavender essential oil. In particular, the lavender essential oil can help reduce the effects of eczema and skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin, dilute the oil with a little water or neutral oil.

Lavender also has antioxidant components that may help in wound healing.

Reduce pain

Before the advent of painkillers from doctors, the ancient used aromatherapy using lavender essential oil to reduce pain. It is not as strong or as effective as the drug, but it is an alternative method that can be used as an option.

Reducing blood pressure relieves asthma attacks

According to a small study conducted in Iran, they found that blood pressure and anxiety from after surgery were successfully reduced after patients were given aromatherapy using lavender oil. Researchers emphasize that these results require more research and are still in the early stages. This opens up opportunities for many more discoveries related to the use of this lavender essential oil.
