Cleaning Glasses Should Be a Daily Routine, Here Are 5 Steps to Follow

Glasses can play a very important role in people who have vision problems. It is quite irritating for those who are wearing glasses to find that the lenses are dirty and smudgy. Many people don’t realize that cleaning glasses should be part of their daily routine.

Not cleaning the glasses can increase the risk of bacteria growing on your glasses, especially on areas such as the nose pads and ear clips. Dr. Jonathan Wolfe, an optometrist in New York suggested cleaning the lenses every day and the frame once a week. Wondering how to properly clean your glasses? Follow these five steps to clean your glasses and see the world clearly all day.

1. Wash your hands

Make sure your hands are free from dirt, grime, lotion, or anything that could smudge the lenses. Washing your hands before cleaning the glasses can avoid the chance to transfer germs from your hands to the glasses.

2. Rinse your glasses

Run lukewarm tap water to your glasses and apply a small amount of dish soap on both sides of the lenses. Gently rub over it, including the frame. Give extra attention to the inside edge of the glasses which is a spot for collecting sweat and oil. Rinse the soap off to avoid the lenses being smeared with soap when it dry.

3. Dry your glasses with a clean cloth

Eliminate most of the water by patting it dry. Carefully dry the lenses by using a towel that is perfectly clean and lint-free and not be laundered with a fabric softener. Debris or dirt from the towel may scratch the lenses. You can try using a cotton swab to remove excess oil or debris that are still sticking at your frames.

4. Clean your lenses

Clean the lenses with the microfibre cloth and a little bit of moisture. There are lens cleaner sell at the store or simply breathe softly onto the lenses. Adding a bit of moisture can prevent dirt or debris from being dragged on the lenses.

5. Keep healthy habits

Clean your glasses daily and frame once a week. If you want to use lens cleaner, make sure that it is labeled “safe for coated lenses” to maintain the coating on your lenses. Make sure that your lens cloth is always in a good condition by washing it once a week.
