Recently, Vietnamese authorities have caught a farmer growing over 300 cannabis plants in the middle of his orange grove, which he said were for feeding his chickens.
42-year-old Bui Doc Hoa grew 304 cannabis plants said police in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region.
Reported that the farmer had bought the seeds from a friend and started growing the plants which had already reached a height of 1.5 meters, about two months ago.
The farmer added that he wanted to ensure and prevent his chickens from getting sick.
In Vietnam, cannabis is illegal and small-scale growers can face a fine of between RM332 to RM894 while farmers found cultivating larger amounts could be jailed between six months to seven years. Police now have seized the weed and are continuing with the investigation.
In 2019, a court in Ho Chi Minh City has sentenced eight people to death for drug trafficking after a judge found them guilty of transporting 132 kilograms of heroin and 55 kilograms of methamphetamines.
Production or sale of 100 grams of heroin or cocaine, or 300 grams of methamphetamines, warrants the death penalty under Vietnamese law.
