New Zealand To Lift COVID-19 Restrictions In Most Of Country On September 21

New Zealand will lift coronavirus or COVID-19 restrictions nationwide on September 21, except in its largest city, Auckland, where the second wave of infection begins in the country.

It was stated on Monday by the country’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern and for Auckland’s restrictions, it will be reviewed next Monday.

Ardern also said that the government would soon alleviate all physical distance requirements on planes. This statement is good news for Air New Zealand which had previously had to limit passengers on its aircraft for months.

“I know this change will make a real difference to Air New Zealand and those parts of the country seeking increased numbers of visitors,” said the Prime Minister.

Wearing face masks will remain mandatory on all public transport.

New Zealand had previously managed to curb the spread of COVID-19, but a new outbreak in Auckland in August prompted the government to put the city back in lockdown.

Ardern’s cabinet will review current rules for Auckland at its September 21 meeting. The aim is to increase the collection limit for a social gathering if the situation remains stable.

Currently, the city is still under alert level 2.5, meaning social gatherings are not allowed if more than 10 people. Should any changes occur, it will take effect on September 23.
