Rescuers End Search for Possible Beirut Blast Survivor

It has been a month after the massive explosion in Beirut that happened on 4 August. The capital of Lebanon was destroyed by a blast of nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate.

The tragic incident has killed 190 people and more than 6,000 people were injured. About 300,000 people were displaced from their homes. The explosion has destroyed a bigger part of Beirut’s eastern coastal area.

Search and rescue teams have failed to find a survivor under destroyed buildings which extinguishing hopes of locating a missing person after the blast that had happened one month ago.  The team announced that the search was 95% complete and they weren’t able to find any sign of life inside of the buildings.

People in Lebanon were anticipating the news of possible survivors during the search operation. The team’s search dog and sensors detected signs of life inside of the destroyed buildings in eastern Beirut. It was not a happy ending for some people when they failed to find a missing person.

Melissa Fathallah, an activist however perceives the decision to stop searching as a happy ending. The rescue team was exhausted and there wasn’t a chance of anyone surviving inside the buildings, she said.

Head of operations at the civil defense, George Abu Musa said that the chances for them to find a survivor are very less, which leads them to stop the operation.
