What Your Computer Needs, 7 Simple Tips in Handling Computer

We might take for granted certain things when we are using the computer. We think that it doesn’t require much care from us compared to other things.

The computer actually needs proper care to make sure that it can function well for a longer time. Here are seven tips where you can apply when taking care of your computer.

1. Avoid using the laptop on your lap

We are used to using a laptop on the lap. Why not since its name itself is called a laptop, right? However, using a laptop on soft surfaces can block airflow. Avoid using a laptop on any soft surface to prevent heat from building up inside the case of your laptop.

2. Shut down your laptop every night

It is advisable to shut down your laptop and didn’t put it on sleep mode. The laptop is still using the battery even when it is asleep. Your battery will degrade faster if it always in use.

3. Prevent overheating

Debris inside the hardware can cause overheating. Use a can of compressed air to blow dust out of your laptop’s vents. You can also use a vacuum hose to clean the dust. Make this a routine once every three to six months.

4. Extend the life of the battery

There are a few tips to extend your battery’s life. Dim the screen, switch off the Wifi and Bluetooth when you are not using them, and turn off peripherals such as USB sticks and webcams.

5. Spring-clean your computer

Don’t forget to do a spring-clean on your laptop as you do at your home. Delete files that are not necessary anymore and move other files to an external drive. Leave at least 15 to 20 percent capacity on your hard drive to avoid it from being slow.

6. Avoid opening too many browsers at one time

You will use too much RAM when you open multiple tabs at a time. Thus, it will slow down your computer. When buying a computer, choose the computer with a solid-state drive, and have a minimum of 8GB of RAM capacity.

7. Act quickly if in contact with water

Don’t get panic when water spilled over your computer. Instead, act quickly by unplugging the cable and turning off the computer by pushing the power button. Turn the laptop upside down to drain for 24 hours and quickly get a professional assessment.
