The coronavirus pandemic had caused many airline companies to halt their business for a while. This is because some of the countries have not yet allowed other than their residents to go to their countries.
However, there are still a few airplane companies that continue their operation despite the pandemic. They need to take extra precautions so that the passengers will be safe throughout the journey.
One case from South Korea has been reported to be infected by COVID-19 when taking a flight from Italy to South Korea. A 28-year-old woman was suspected to be infected after she went to use the toilet in the flight.
All passengers in the flight were given N95 masks and kept six-feet apart before boarding. The flight also conducted strict infection control measures. Passengers need to do testing before boarding the flight. The flight was organized by South Korean officials to evacuate 300 South Koreans from Milan, Italy.
The woman said she wore the mask during the flight, except when she used the toilet. One asymptomatic patient also used the toilet, which high likely the woman got infected through the droplets or touching a contaminated surface.
Six passengers tested positive upon landing and were brought to the hospital immediately. Other passengers were quarantined for two weeks at a government quarantine facility. The woman reported developing the symptoms after eight days of quarantine.
It is unlikely for her to get infected before the flight as she had self-quarantined at her home for three weeks. This is among the first case to show that the virus can be transmitted on an airplane.
