COVID-19 Restrictions In Auckland Will Be Lifted, Will Move To Alert Level 1

New Zealand’s largest city that is Auckland will lift its COVID-19 restrictions this week. It was confirmed by the country’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern.

The announcement was confirmed during a COVID-19 media briefing today where Ardern announced that Auckland will move to alert level 1 at 11.59 pm on Wednesday.

Before this in August, the largest city has been at alert levels 3, 2, and 2.5. According to the New Zealand Herald, people will be able to go about life as usual, though Ardern urged people to remain vigilant.

“It is still a requirement that businesses display the QR code so please, do keep checking in,” she said.

“To stay at level 1 relies on all of us continuing to be vigilant and playing our part . . . Keep using the app, scan in everywhere you go, and remind the people you are with to do the same,” she added.

Ardern also stated that people that are sick must stay at home and get tested if asked to. To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in New Zealand is 1,854 cases with 25 deaths.
