Don’t Spread Anger, Provoke News Or You’ll Be Fined RM50,000 – MCMC

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today reminded the public not to abuse social media to disseminate content or material that contains elements that can provoke anger and affect public order.

According to the MCMC statement, any sharing or dissemination of content that is false or threatening is an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

If convicted, a person can be fined a maximum of RM50,000 or jailed for a year or both, according to the statement.

MCMC also asks the public to report to the police or MCMC if they come across such accounts or content through the MCMC portal or email to aduanskmm@mcmc.gov.my.
