Geneva To Be The Highest Minimum Wage In The World With RM17, 000

Voters in Geneva, Switzerland, have agreed to introduce a minimum wage in the canton that is the equivalent of US$25 an hour, believed to be the highest in the world.

Geneva is a city in Switzerland with a population of 500,000 people with the minimum hourly wage will be set at just under £19.50 an hour, more than twice the rate in neighboring France, with a guaranteed minimum monthly salary of 4,086 Swiss francs (£3,457) based on a 41-hour working week, or 49,000 Swiss francs (£41,430) a year, in one of the world’s most expensive cities to live.

According to the media report, new wages to be applied by 1st Nov.

The Swiss system of direct democracy calls on voters to exercise their right four times a year and allows citizens to collect signatures to introduce “popular initiatives” to be enacted.
