KOTA KINABALU, Nov 19 — The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sabah has collected 5,252 pints of blood to date through the COVID-19 Blood Donation Programme which was implemented throughout Sabah in March.
Sabah MRC Blood Donation programme coordinator Leslie Chan Boon Siang told Bernama today that the amount was collected through 129 blood donation programmes held in 21 districts in Sabah involving more than 6,000 donors.
He said 3,553 pints were collected during the first phase of the programme which was held from March to August this year involving 95 programmes.
Leslie said they have yet to conduct a donation drive in three districts namely Lahad Datu, Nabawan, and Kinabatangan.
“By the end of this year, we will conduct 15 more blood donation drives in the three districts involving 250 volunteers,” he added.
Leslie urged the Sabah people to participate in the donation drive as the blood supply at the Queen Elizebeth I Hospital, Kudat Hospital and Tuaran Hospital is at a critical level.
He also assured that the donation programme follows the standard operating procedures set to curb the spread of COVID-19.
