Demo Videos Show Dangers of Deep Frying Turkey And Way To Do It Correctly

During this festive Thanksgiving holiday, where people are gathered together to spend time with loved ones, there has to be the signature turkey dinner that ties it all together.

Even though this pandemic won’t make Thanksgiving as merry as it used to, that alone won’t stop the cooks in the kitchen to make it.

The risk of cooking accidents are often escalated during holiday seasons – fire departments made to effort to raise awareness for this issue by demonstrating how dangerous it could get by deep-frying a turkey wrongly.

Some of the things they mentioned to fry turkey safely are:

1. Thaw the bird completely – on average, you’d want to thaw the turkey for 24 hours for every 5 pounds of weight.

2. Keep an eye on the turkey once it’s in the fryer to make sure to check it from time to time in case things get bad.

3. Frying turkey should be done outside. In case of spills and accidents, outside, in the open air would avoid anyone or anything catching its impact.

4. Have a fire extinguisher that’s used for liquid fires ready in case it combusts into flames.

5. Be cautious of what we wear – avoid wearing loose clothing, long-sleeved tops, or long pants to avoid catching them on fire from spills or combustions, also to optimize movement in case of emergency.

6. Make sure the oil is not too full up to avoid spills – about 1/3 of the fryer.
