ALOR SETAR, Nov 26 — Thirty-five people, involving 13 families, in the Kota Setar district, are still at the relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Suka Menanti here as the flood water in their housing area has yet to recede.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) Disaster Operations Division Chief, Captain (PA) Saifuddin Abdullah said the PPS, which opened last Tuesday, had previously accommodated 44 victims from 14 families.
“However, following the improving weather condition, resulting in the flood water to recede in some areas, a family of nine people returned to their house at 9.30 pm yesterday.
“In Pokok Sena, the PPS at Surau Kampung Permatang Limau, which opened last Monday to accommodate 12 victims from three families, was closed at 6 pm yesterday,” he said in a statement here today.
He said three PPS were opened to provide temporary shelter to the flood victims in the Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, and Kota Setar districts following continuous heavy rain last Monday, causing flooding in some areas.
“The PPS at SK Malau in Kubang Pasu, which housed 62 victims from 15 families, was closed at noon, yesterday after all the victims were allowed to return home,” he added.
