Labuan Police Mount Roadblocks At COVID-19 High-Risk Areas

LABUAN, Nov 6 — Labuan police have mounted roadblocks at two High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)-sanctioned settlements of Kg Muslim and Kiamsam, and at the COVID-19 Tenaga Cluster entry points beginning today.

Labuan police chief, Supt. Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the two settlements, heavily populated by foreign nationals, were classified as COVID-19 high-risk areas, while a cluster with increasing cases had already occurred at Jalan Tenaga.

“As the three densely-populated areas are not placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), we are of the view that roadblocks at the entry/exit points of the two settlements and kongsi rented houses at Jalan Tenaga are needed due to the possible risk of COVID-19 spreading to the local community.

“The roadblocks will only be operational from 6 am to 8 pm.

“We feel the need to control the inflow and outflow of people in these areas especially those undergoing home quarantine, as the Titian Cluster of Kg Muslim and Tenaga Cluster has recorded a gradual increase in COVID-19 cases the past few days,” he told reporters here today.

The federal territory of Labuan was placed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) from Oct 17 to 30 and extended until Nov 13, following the spike in COVID-19 cases.

“These three roadblocks are in addition to the existing two roadblocks at the main roads of Jalan Tun Mustapha and Patau-Patau that we set up from the start of the CMCO,” Muhamad Farid said.
