Disney Allegedly Said No to Jack Sparrow Cameo in Next Pirates of The Caribbean Movie

Disney reportedly said no to Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow cameo in the next movie, Pirates Of The Caribbean.
As played by Johnny Depp, the character of the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow went from being a sidekick in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie to being the main protagonist, and with each successive installment, he is the face of the series.

But as significant as Depp was to the success of the film, a THR study alleges that Disney is no longer interested in making Jack Sparrow appear, even for a cameo, in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

“[Producer Jerry] Bruckheimer, who has been one of Depp’s biggest champions and once suggested the finger injury happened because “he got it caught in a car door,” was hoping to at least bring the Captain Jack Sparrow character back briefly in the next outing – said to be a female-centric incarnation fronted by Margot Robbie. Disney balked.”

The big question now is, without Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, will the Pirates of the Caribbean movies survive? A number of fans have recently argued that new films in the series have become too focused on the villain, to the detriment of the other characters and the story. But the fact is in the latest movies, most viewers will be hard-pressed to name any important character from the series other than Jack.

Without Sparrow, if the franchise were to go forward, it would need a new character that is just as convincing but not so similar that they would just feel like the ‘next’ Jack Sparrow. Interestingly, it might be Margot Robbie who supplies the personality. Her hugely popular depiction of Harley Quinn, while still being a serious badass who can escape any dangerous situation using her cunning, is just as zany and humorous as Sparrow.

But while Disney seems prepared to move on from Jack Sparrow’s character, fans are not so easily persuaded. Multiple petitions, signed by more than a million fans, were published online, requesting that Depp be returned to his role as Sparrow. Can they really afford to offend too many fans by bringing in a replacement Sparrow at a time when fan engagement is more critical than ever and Disney relies on brand loyalty to bolster their empire?

The latest news about Disney turning down Depp’s offer for a cameo by Jerry Bruckheimer in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film would also mean that the absence of Sparrow might not be discussed in the film at all or worse, he might be killed off-screen and never mentioned again. In reality, it would be a sad end to one of the greatest actor that Hollywood has ever provided us with.
