European Countries Implement Lockdown Immediately After New COVID-19 Strain Takes Hold In UK

In London and southeast England in particular, COVID-19 positive cases reported an increase of 35,928 on Sunday morning (yesterday) – the number of daily infections exceeds 30,000 cases for the fourth time in a week.

The Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson on Saturday announced that the level four restrictions imposed will cancel all Christmas celebrations on the streets, shops, and so on.

The Guardian reports that France is one of the countries that will do so within 24 hours from 11 pm yesterday.

However, The Road Haulage Association warns that the move will have a detrimental effect on the supply chain previously affected by Brexit as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among other European countries identified to act similarly are Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland.

Not only Europe, but some civilians in South Africa are also reported to be infected with the new virus which is claimed to be more dangerous than COVID-19.

In fact, Saudi Arabia has reportedly suspended all international flights and visas in an effort to curb such dangerous transmission.

It is understood that the new strains of the virus were detected for the first time in September and confirmed by the government the following October.

However, the proposed closure measures for the earlier period proposed by scientists and physicians were ignored by the government.
