Man Arrested for Dragging Pet Dog on The Road And Tying It To His Car

A man in India was arrested last Saturday after a video went viral showing him dragging a pet dog along a road while it was tied to his car. Police reported that the man wanted to dump the female dog for disturbing other wild dogs in his neighborhood.

Akhil, who recorded the video of the brutal incident, said the dog was dragged in the middle of the road at 11 am near Paravur.

“It was a horrific scene. A rope was tied around the neck of the dog and it was being brutally dragged along the road,” he said.

However, the driver of the car released the dog after an argument with Akhil who was recording the incident. Akhil also reported the incident to DAYA, an animal care organization which later reported to the police.

With the cooperation of DAYA, they were able to find the dog and take it to a veterinarian near Paravoor.

The local police said that the man has been charged under IPC sections 428 (Mischief by killing or maiming animal), 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc), and Section 11(1) in The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
