Movie Review: Ready For Godzilla VS Kong? These Are Their 5 Best Movies

‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ is one of the most widely awaited film launches for 2021. It’s the newest of the Godzilla and King Kong adventures in Legendary Pictures’ reboot and promises to deliver the goods as an action-packed monster mash-up with a definite true winner.

Fortunately, as viewers wait for the epic duel, there are still plenty of titles to keep up on that feature both of the sparring giants.

Here are the five best movies of both monsters that you can watch while waiting for the upcoming ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’.

5. Kong: King Kong VS Godzilla (1962)

King Kong vs. Godzilla is the fifth highest-rated Kong title, the first time the two legendary creatures appeared on television. The 1962 movie is as raunchy as it can get, but it’s a must-see for true monster film buffs.

Godzilla was considered the villain between the two, so ultimately, the winner of the fight goes to Kong. This will make the viewers wonder if the same thing will be repeating in the upcoming movie or not since they’ve had multiple sequels of them being seen as ‘the good one’.

4. Godzilla: Shin Godzilla (2016)

The ‘Shin Godzilla’ of 2016 represents the start of the third remake by Toho Pictures of the Godzilla franchise, which produced the original 1954 classic. In Japan, despite receiving mixed reviews in the United States, the film was a big hit.

It was 2016’s highest-grossing Japanese movie and Godzilla movie of that time. The impressions of viewers show its popularity, as it has a considerably higher IMDb rating than any of the remakes and/or sequels of American Godzilla.

3. Kong: King Kong (2005)

Director Peter Jackson wanted to tackle the greatest American myth of it all, fresh from his success with the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings films, and released the second biggest Kong remake ever in 2005.

Jackson’s King Kong, like the Lord of the Rings films, is long, carefully paced, yet professionally crafted and visually stunning. Also, a sight to behold, and a fitting homage to the period in which the original Kong takes place, is Jackson’s masterful re-creation of 1930’s New York City.

2. Godzilla: Godzilla (1954)

Not strangely, over all of its sequels, reboots, and spinoffs, the original 1954 Godzilla still rules supreme. The film is a metaphor for the horrific consequences of nuclear war, bringing it up to the standards of B-movie monsters.

Whereas most monster movies are nothing more than action-adventure pop entertainment before and after the original Godzilla, at the heart of this film is genuine sorrow that makes it a true standout in its genre. In more ways than one, it’s a milestone accomplishment.

1. Kong: King Kong (1933)

None, admittedly, beats the original. King Kong, which was released in 1933, was regarded as a significant artistic achievement. Thanks to the monsters rendered by visual effects pioneer Willis O’Brien, who produced the dinosaurs in the 1925 silent film ‘The Lost Planet’, it was also considered as a marvel of scientific discovery.
