Pregnant Women Are Not Recommended To Take Vaccine – WHO

The World Health Organization warns pregnant women not to take the Moderna vaccine (WHO). WHO doctors have urged pregnant women to avoid the vaccine unless, according to recent guidelines, they are health workers or at high risk.

WHO officials also recommend that two doses of Moderna jab should be delivered at an interval of 28 days, following a study of the vaccine results.

Under complex conditions in a country hard hit by a coronavirus, this period can be extended to 42 days, the experts added.

The WHO said it does not suggest halving the dose of the Moderna vaccine and also advised that it be given only in a situation where it is possible to treat an allergic reaction. The Moderna vaccine is expected to arrive by spring in the UK – although against the South African version it could be less effective.

In order to improve its efficacy against the mutated form of the virus, the pharma giant is looking to create a booster shot.

Moderna stated the outcome of tests asserting that its vaccine provides protection against all coronavirus mutations. Lab tests showed that vaccination with its jab had no major effect on the UK variant antibodies.

There was, however, a six-fold decrease in the neutralizing antibodies produced against the South African version.

17 million doses of the Moderna vaccine have been imported by the UK government – enough to vaccinate 8.5 million people.
