(Video) Jamie Oliver Cooks Malaysian-Style ‘Ikan Bakar’, Praised By Many Malaysians

Malaysian cuisine has been such an inspiration for a lot of chefs all over the world. With combinations of sweet, sour, and spicy tasting foods that come from many different cultures in Malaysia, there would definitely be a new recipe to try. This feature definitely is something that all Malaysians are proud of.

Recently, there is a well-known person from other countries that raving about our food and that person is none other than one of the famous British celebrity chefs is Jamie Oliver. He posted a video where he made a Malaysian inspired whole baked sea bass, which is for most of us Malaysians knew it as ikan bakar.

This Malaysian style dish was featured in one of his shows named the “Jamie And Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast” that was aired on Britain’s Channel 4. In the recipe, he used lemongrass, red chilies, shallot, ginger, kaffir lime leaves, and salt for the paste which he crushed all together using the pestle and mortar, better known as “lesung batu”. He also added to the dish some fish oil, tomato puree, and lime juice. He then slathered the paste onto the fish, before wrapping it all up in a banana leaf.

What makes the show really interesting is that he dived right in with his fingers when he wanted to taste the dish, like how the true Malaysians would eat their food. Jamie Oliver said during the show, “I would usually use a knife and fork for this, but I’m not going to. Today I’m going to use my very clean hands”. He also added, “My Mum would kill me for using my fingers, but I don’t care. I’d go to my naughty corner for this. Delicious!”.
