Irresponsible Action of Poisoning Kemaman River For Prawns Can Affects The Whole Ecosystem

Recently, there are some irresponsible people that have taken the decision to poison the Kemaman River for the huge catch of prawns. In addition, the current market price of prawns nowadays would be about RM80 to 120 per kilo. That is why many people are driven to do such a thing. Little did they know, poisoning Kemaman River not only killed the prawns but also affects the whole ecosystem badly.

The Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia has taken the serious issue to its official Twitter page criticizing all the irresponsible people who poisoned the Kemaman River, causing a huge population of prawns in the area to die.

According to the statement of the tweet,

“Last week, there were people who poisoned shrimp at the Kemaman River. How do we know? Because when we were on our way to the shore to wait for Tuntung’s mother to lay eggs, our ‘Tuntung Group’ saw a lot of shrimps got stranded on the shore. Healthy shrimps wouldn’t act that way”.

Then, they decided to report the irresponsible action towards the Kemaman Fisheries Office. The Fisheries Officer then later informed that they have further this report to the responsible party.

A few days later, enforcement officers from the Kuala Terengganu Fisheries Office finally came to visit the unfortunate scene that happened in Kg. Pasir Gajah, Kemaman.

“The act of poisoning lobster is a very irresponsible act. The poison placed in the river not only has a negative effect on the fish and shrimp but also on the physiology of the Tuntung (eye pain),” said Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia in the same tweet.
