All the Malaysians can still count on Datuk Nicol David to bring us some cheer in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The squash great is on the verge of being hailed as the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time as she holds a massive lead in an online poll.
The 37-year-old is the only candidate from Asia and has amassed over 300,000 votes. The votes still count until the end of Monday as the voting will be closed at 9 pm on Monday, the 1st of February 2021.
As for now, Datuk Nicol David is still in the number one place according to the pole. Her closest competitor is Irish James Kehoe representing the tug of war, followed by German Marcel Hassemeier (lifesaving) and women powerlifting athlete Larysa Soloviova from Ukraine.
Nicol, the eight-time world champion, reigned as the world’s number one for nine years and is one of 23 candidates shortlisted for the awards in the poll to pick the best athlete of all sports from the World Games’ 40-year history (from 1981 to 2017).
You can vote by voting at The World Games website and it will be closed Monday, the 1st of February at 9 pm Malaysian time. According to The World Games, “You can give your votes to the candidates on The World Games website once per 24 hours. Votes must be given each time to two candidates: two votes to your first-choice candidate and one vote to your second-choice candidate. If you try to give votes to one candidate only, the votes will not be registered”.
