(Video) Disney Released First Trailer of Its Upcoming Movie, Featuring Emma Stone As Cruella

Disney finally released the first trailer for Cruella (2021), a live-action reimagining of 101 Dalmatians villain’s origin story.

The studio is continuing its trend of revisiting past films through the villains’ perspective as done with the success of Maleficent. This movie will be a hit among generations who grew up with Disney movies from the ’80s to the early 2000s. Disney cast Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil, in 2016.

The initial release was in 2020. But due to the coronavirus, it was delayed to May 2021. The movie takes place in London in the ’70s and follows a young Cruella as an aspiring fashion designer. With pre(iconic)-black-white-hair, we get to see Cruella as a girl in the city possibly on the verge of falling into insanity.

The blonde-haired beauty looks both stunning and menacing as both redhead and black-white-haired Cruella in the trailer.  It almost looks as if Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada with her personality magnified tenfold.

The trailer was careful not to give away too much of the plot. However, we get a sense of what the character is like. The dark and sinister tone is something different from Maleficent who gave a more emotional version of a villain’s story. The visual reminds some of Joker and Harley Quinn. Some even joked that Emma could easily portray a female version of the popular villains from DCEU.

There would be a comparison to the original Cruella in the 101 Dalmation (1996) played by Glenn Close. But the trailer already gives a promising look at her performance.  Known cast that will appear are Emma Thompson, Mark Strong, Joel Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Emily Beecham, and Paul Walter Hauser.
