(Video) Warner Bros Released Mortal Kombat 2021 Trailer, Confirmed To Be R-Rated Movie

Yesterday Warner Brothers released the new ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie trailer directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan.

It features an ensemble of characters from the game including Sub- Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Liu Kang, and Sonya Blade. It will air on HBO Max on April 16.

This movie follows a new character, Cole Young (Lewis Tan). He unwillingly participates in the ancient tournament that will decide the fate of Earth. Fans are happy to see the appearance of the classic video game characters and the reference to the classic moves the game is known for.

However, there are some changes in the characters’ motivations. Sub-Zero is working for Shang Tsung and Scorpion seems to be the sympathetic side and Kano seems to be a hero in the beginning. Hopefully, the changes will bring a fresh twist to the story. Although, the game itself focuses more on the melee attacks and not so much on the story. The writers took some liberty considering the bar is set pretty low after Mortal Kombat (1996).

There was plenty of blood and gore in the trailer. It seems the movie is trying to follow the game’s take on violence. In the trailer, Sub-Zero freezes Jax’s arms and crushes it into smithereens of blood and ice. It will be enough to warrant the movie an R-rating. With the bad reputation of video game adaptations and the past record of the previous movie, fans are hoping that this will break the game movie curse and do the source material justice.

Other casts include the legendary Hiroyuki Sanada, Joe Taslim, Jessica McNamee, Ludi Lin, and Mehcad Brooks.
