4 Things You Need To Know About Song Hye-Kyo’s New Drama, ‘Now We Are Breaking Up’

K-drama queen Song Hye Kyo will grace the small screen with her new upcoming drama Now We Are Breaking Up. The drama has been confirmed in November last year and here are the new details revealed.

1. Song Hye Kyo as a fashion lover

Song will play as Ha Young-eun – a ‘trendy, intelligent and realist’ manager of a fashion label’s design team. This reflects the actor’s fashionable style being the ambassador of brands like Chaumet and Fendi.

Previously, the role was offered to Soo Ae, which in all honesty is also a good choice. However, Soo Ae had to refuse the role due to covid restriction as explained by her agency. However, now with Song in the picture fans are more excited than ever to see her comeback.

2. Jang Ki-yong as a leading man

Debuted in 2014, this actor is a rising star in the Korean drama industry. He started to gain attention from his leading role as Jung Nam-gil and Go Back Couple and then starring in popular dramas such as the critically praised My Mister, action-packed role in the miniseries Kill It, and a more nuanced character in Born Again.

The actor’s maturity and low profile seem to fit well with Song Hye Kyo despite being fledgling in comparison to the actress. Yet, fans are excited for this pairing especially with Jang’s quiet charisma. Although the actor is younger than Song, she has played roles with younger actors before with Park Bo-gum in Encounter.

3. Great supporting cast

What is a Song Hye-kyo drama without great supporting casts. Choi Hee-seo from Mistress (2018) and Stranger 2 (2020) will be playing Hwang Chi-sook, Ha’s high schoolmate and director of the fashion label’s design team.In addition, Kim Joo-heon from It’s Okay to Not Be Okay ( 2020) and Start-up (2020) will be taking on the role of Seok Do-hoon, a skilled PR company CEO.

4. A-list production team

A good drama also relies on a great production team. Song Hye Kyo is a known A-lister in the industry but so will be the team. Director Lee Gil-bok with My Love from the Star, Vagabond, and Dr. Romantic under his belt will be taking the director’s seat.

Earlier, writer Kim Eun-sook, famous for her work with Descendants of the Sun and The King: Eternal Monarch will pen the drama. However, new updates said that Je In who worked on Misty (2018) will take over.

There’s not much detail about the plot aside from “tell stories of emotional love and breakups”. Filming will start in April and the target release date will be the second half of 2021. SBS is confirmed to be producing.
