A Blind Nine Year-Old War-Zone School Teacher

In Yemen, one  in every five schools are is out of use. But one persevered despite the damage so education could thrive. Hundreds of children in Taiz risk their lives for education. Their school near the front line between the government and Houthi rebels, in ruins.

When the teachers can’t make it, Ahmed, a nine-year old boy, blind since birth steps in as substitute.

“I teach students what I studied already. The easiest for me are Koran and Science.” said the boy in an interview.

The schools are lacking in electricity and basic tools. Despite being closed on 2016, the students managed to learn in the ruins with the cooperation of the remaining teachers and students.

In the city of Taiz, Yemen, hundreds of children arrive for lessons each day in the ruins of a school near to front line fighting between the government and Houthi rebels. Even with the constant disturbance from the war zones, the children of Yemen should be an inspiration on how valuable knowledge can be.
