Malaysians Should Consider Higher Education In Hungary, Says Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — Malaysians should consider Hungary for tertiary education, what more with 40 scholarships allocated annually for them under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship programme introduced by the Hungarian government.

Hungarian Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Petra Ponevács-Pana said Malaysians could apply for the scholarship that was first introduced for them in the 2018 academic year for those pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate studies.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, monthly stipend, accommodation, and medical insurance, and applies for various programmes including agriculture, architecture and cultural heritage, health science, natural science, and environmental science.

However, Dr Petra noted that the take-up rate among Malaysian students for the scholarship programme is still low, with only some 80 Malaysian students benefiting from the scholarship so far since its introduction.

“We have noticed that we should increase the visibility and accessibility of the scholarship programme. I am planning to tour selected states in Malaysia to reach out to secondary school pupils on the possibilities available to study in Hungary, being the 10th most attractive destination in Europe to pursue higher studies,” she told Bernama in an exclusive interview, recently.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship was established by the Hungarian government in 2013 and implemented by the Tempus Public Foundation from 2015. So far, more than 60 countries have become partners in the programme through bilateral educational cooperation.

Dr Petra, who will be focusing on enhancing ties on higher education between Malaysia and Hungary, said besides the access to quality education and having degrees recognised throughout Europe and beyond, students choose Hungary for its affordable cost of living as well as a safe and friendly living environment.
